What Is Radiating Cable and Why UAE Warehouses Need It

If you run a warehouse or large facility in the UAE, you have almost certainly dealt with wireless dead zones. Barcode scanners drop off the network mid-scan. Forklift terminals freeze between aisles. Staff walk to a corner of the building just to get a connection. The usual fix is to keep adding more wireless access points, but in warehouse environments this rarely solves the problem. Radiating cable is the technology built for exactly this situation, and it is one of the most in-demand solutions TLS IT Solutions installs across the UAE.

What Is Radiating Cable?

Radiating cable, also called leaky feeder cable, is a special type of coaxial cable with precisely engineered slots cut along its outer conductor. Instead of carrying a signal from one point to another like a normal cable, it intentionally 'leaks' the radio signal evenly along its entire length. In effect, the cable itself becomes one long, continuous antenna.

When installed along the ceiling of a warehouse, through a tunnel, or across a parking structure, the cable delivers a consistent wireless signal everywhere it runs, with no gaps and no dead spots between coverage zones.

Why Standard Access Points Fail in Warehouses

A standard wireless access point broadcasts a signal outward from a single fixed location. That works well in an open office, but a warehouse is a hostile radio environment. Tall metal racking reflects and blocks signals. Stock levels change daily, which means the radio environment changes daily too. An access point layout that worked in January can be full of dead zones by March simply because inventory moved.

Adding more access points creates a new problem: overlapping signals interfere with each other, and devices constantly jump between access points, dropping connections each time. This is why scanning guns and forklift terminals disconnect in the middle of operations.

How Radiating Cable Solves the Problem

Because the cable radiates signal evenly along its full length, coverage does not depend on line of sight from a single point. Racking, stock, and machinery no longer create shadows in the network. Devices stay connected to one continuous signal source as workers and forklifts move through the aisles, so there is no hopping between access points and no mid-task disconnection.

Radiating cable in the UAE is used in warehouses, distribution centres, underground parking, hospitals, tunnels, construction sites, and marine and oil and gas facilities where reliable coverage is mission critical.

The Business Benefits

For UAE warehouse operators, the results are immediate: scanning and picking operations run without interruption, warehouse management systems receive real-time data, voice communication works across the entire site, and staff stop wasting time walking to find signal. Downtime caused by connectivity failures effectively disappears. Because one cable run replaces a large number of access points, ongoing maintenance is also simpler and more predictable.

Radiating Cable Installation by TLS IT Solutions

TLS IT Solutions is one of the few IT companies in the UAE with proven, hands-on experience designing and installing radiating cable systems. Our engineers survey your facility, design the cable route and signal plan, install and terminate the cable, and test coverage across every aisle and corner before handover. We havedelivered radiating cable projects for warehouses and industrial facilities across Dubai and the wider UAE.
